An interactive light work, commissioned
by the Centre for Visual Arts in Cardiff in 1998 to celebrate
the opening of the new gallery. Microphones placed around the
building recorded the sounds of shoppers, street traders, buskers
and delivery vehicles, storing the information on tape before
using it to drive banks of coloured light throughout the building.
The different sound sources were mixed and the range of frequencies
used to trigger different coloured lights depending on the nature
of the sound. This light portrait of the days’ activity
was recorded daily to create a new light display each evening
and ran automatically for one month.
